My daughter has a collection of Barbie dolls and she loves playing with it. Over time I find the problem was that Barbie sets came only with one set of clothing and like girls are, they like to dress their dolls with new outfits to keep them entertained while playing. After ordering Barbie outfits online, she decided to try and make her own Barbie outfits instead.
First, I thought that she could not do it on her own and leave it for me to finish. Well, I was was pleasantly surprised with the outcome! She was doing the outfits on her own and she is only 10 years old! So, if your daughter is old enough and has an interest in Barbie dolls, this can be an exciting project for her to do over a holiday.
It is entertaining and will keep her busy for hours. She can decide on her own designs of clothing, which material she likes to use and then start making her own clothing. It is important to be present and offer guidance with the cutting of material and other help that she needs from you when doing the project.
The basic items needed were stretchy material of different colours, a dinner plate, marker and scissor. If you find more designs you will need more different shapes or cutting to do the dresses.
The only help that my daughter needed from me, was helping her with some of the cutting on the material. I find that the stretchy material slides while cutting. No prep was needed and it was not difficult designs to make. The amazing part was that she didn’t use any glue on material and no sewing work was needed. My daughter is 10 years old and she find it easy to do herself with these quick and easy steps for making different outfits. A little supervision was needed with my child, but depending on the age of your child, you can decide when they are ready.
